Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Salawat respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Salawat mobile application for iPhone (iOS) and Android.

Salawat is designed to operate with minimal data collection. Most application settings and preferences are stored locally on your device. Salawat does not require an account.

1. Information We Collect

Salawat does not require you to create an account or provide your name, phone number, or other directly identifying personal information to use the app.

The application stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Your selected city or prayer-time location.
  • Notification preferences.
  • Application settings and preferences.
  • Other settings required for the application's functionality.

This information is used only to provide and customize the application's features and is not sent to us.

Feedback you choose to send

If you use the in-app feedback form, the following is sent to us and stored so we can read and respond to it:

  • Your message, and the subject and feedback type you choose.
  • Your email address, only if you choose to enter one (it is optional).
  • The app version and platform (iOS or Android).

Feedback is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) in the European Union (Belgium). It is used only to answer you and improve Salawat, is not shared with anyone else, and is kept only as long as needed for that purpose. You can ask us to delete your feedback at any time (see Section 14).

Location

Salawat does not track your location continuously and does not store or send your GPS position to us.

  • City selection: You can choose your city manually. The selected city is stored on your device.
  • Find nearest city (optional): If you use this feature and allow location access, your device's position is used once to find the nearest supported city. To convert the position into a place name, your phone's built-in location service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) may process the position under its own privacy policy. The position is not sent to us.
  • Qibla finder: If you allow location access, your position is used on your device only, to calculate the direction to the Kaaba. It is not sent anywhere.

Salawat does not use your location for advertising or behavioral tracking.

2. How Information Is Used

Information handled by Salawat is used only to provide the application's functionality, including:

  • Displaying prayer times relevant to your selected city.
  • Remembering your application preferences.
  • Managing prayer and other notifications.
  • Sending occasional announcements from Salawat, such as corrected Ramadan or Eid dates, in your app language.
  • Providing relevant calendar, religious, and weather information.
  • Answering feedback you choose to send.

Salawat does not use your application activity for targeted advertising or behavioral profiling.

3. Local Storage

Most user preferences and settings are stored locally on your device.

Salawat does not operate a user-account database containing your personal profile information. The only information we store on a server is feedback you choose to send (see Section 1).

You can remove locally stored application data by:

  • Clearing Salawat's data (Android: Settings → Apps → Salawat → Storage); or
  • Uninstalling the application (iPhone and Android).

Uninstalling the application removes locally stored application preferences from your device.

4. Third-Party Services

Salawat uses the following external services to provide some features:

European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR)

Website: e-cfr.org

Dates announced by ECFR are used for the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, such as the start of Ramadan and the Eid dates.

Islamiska Förbundet i Sverige

Website: islamiskaforbundet.se

Prayer times for Swedish cities are retrieved from Islamiska Förbundet i Sverige. The request contains your selected city and the date.

OpenWeatherMap

Website: openweathermap.org

OpenWeatherMap is used to show the current weather. The request contains only the name of your selected city and your app language, never your GPS position.

Google Firebase

Website: firebase.google.com

Salawat uses Google Firebase services to:

  • Deliver notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging): Your device receives a technical notification token and is subscribed to a general notification channel for your app language (English, Swedish, or Arabic). This is used to refresh widgets at prayer times and to send occasional announcements. The token does not identify you personally.
  • Receive calendar corrections (Firebase Remote Config): The app downloads updated Ramadan and Eid dates.
  • Store feedback (Cloud Firestore): Only when you send feedback (see Section 1).

Firebase Analytics data collection is turned off in Salawat.

When Salawat communicates with an external service, technical information necessary to make an internet request, such as your IP address, may inherently be visible to that service or its infrastructure.

Each third-party service processes information according to its own terms and privacy practices. Salawat does not control the privacy practices of external websites or services.

5. Data Sharing and Sale

Salawat does not sell your personal information.

Salawat does not share personal information with advertisers for targeted advertising.

Information necessary for requesting content from third-party services is transmitted to those services only when the corresponding feature is used, as described in Section 4.

6. Advertising and Tracking

Salawat does not use your information for behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking.

Salawat does not create advertising profiles based on your application activity.

7. Notifications

Salawat may send notifications related to application features, including prayer-time notifications, reminders, and occasional announcements in your app language.

You remain in control of notifications and can disable or modify them at any time through:

  • iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Salawat
  • Android: Settings → Apps → Salawat → Notifications

You can also manage individual prayer notifications from within Salawat.

8. Application Permissions

Salawat only requests permissions necessary for the application's functionality:

  • Notifications: to show prayer-time notifications, reminders, and announcements.
  • Location (optional): only for "Find nearest city" and the Qibla finder, as described in Section 1.

You can review or revoke permissions at any time through your device settings.

Some features may stop working correctly if a permission required for that feature is disabled.

9. Children's Privacy

Salawat does not knowingly request children to provide personal information or create user accounts.

Because the application is designed to function without collecting directly identifying personal information, Salawat does not intentionally maintain profiles of children.

10. Data Security

Salawat minimizes privacy risks by keeping application preferences locally on the user's device whenever possible and by limiting the information required to operate the application.

Feedback stored on our server cannot be read or changed by other users or by the app itself; only the developer can access it.

However, no software, device, or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Your Privacy Choices

You remain in control of the information handled by Salawat.

You can:

  • Change your selected city.
  • Change application preferences.
  • Enable or disable notifications.
  • Review or revoke application permissions, including location.
  • Clear locally stored application data.
  • Uninstall Salawat to remove locally stored application information.
  • Ask us to delete feedback you have sent (see Section 14).

12. Offline Use

Features that rely only on information already stored on your device continue to work without an internet connection, including previously downloaded prayer times.

Features that retrieve current information from external services, such as weather, new prayer times, notifications, or sending feedback, require an internet connection.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when Salawat's functionality, third-party services, or privacy practices change.

When significant changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy will be revised.

We recommend reviewing this Privacy Policy periodically.

14. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or Salawat's privacy practices, or want feedback you have sent to be deleted, you can contact the developer through the in-app feedback form or through the contact information on Salawat's App Store and Google Play listings.
